A dream come true

Yesterday, Mitch Marner signed my jersey. Mitch freaking Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs wrote “to: Jasmine” and “we will bring the cup back soon!” I’ve had an entire day to process this but I still can’t believe it.

Mitch Marner was my favourite Maple Leaf player ever before I got this signature but now, he is the best NHL player of all time.

So I’m a Leafs fan. Why don’t I love Matthews or Nylander or Andersen? Why Marner?

There are 2 people that I look up to in the world of sports. Josh Donaldson and Mitch Marner.

Josh Donaldson plays every game like it’s game seven of a World Series and leaves everything on the field. He is the definition of a grind and I look up to that.

Mitch Marner is so fast and has so much skill and his positive attitude is infectious. He celebrates everyone’s goals, not just his own. When he galloped to celebrate Morgan Rielly’s first goal of the season was when he started growing on me. Not to mention the disgusting goal he scored on James Reimer. I also think that there’s a bit of a bias in this because Marner is a local boy unlike the Arizona native Matthews. The fact that Marner is from this area just makes it even cooler that he now plays for the Leafs.

The Marner jersey is currently sitting on my bed and I’ve been constantly staring at it and reading the words over in my head but I still can’t believe this. I really can’t. It feels totally surreal to me.

Here’s the thing, I knew that I would be getting this jersey signed for about a week now and the days leading up to this, I wondered to myself what my reaction would be. I thought that I would smile and laugh but I did not expect the waterworks that came out of my eyes when I saw that signature. That was the greatest feeling of all time and will not be topped until the Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Imagine my waterworks then.
