If you have ever been to the Rogers Centre, you will notice the names of players along the 500 level. These are the names of the greatest players who have ever played for the organization.
Only ten players in franchise history have had their names immortalized upon those walls, Roberto Alomar, Paul Beeston, George Bell, Joe Carter, Tom Cheek, Carlos Delgado, Tony Fernandez, Cito Gaston, Pat Gillick, and Dave Stieb.
Maybe it’s time for a new edition?
With Jose Bautista hitting his 20th home run of the season for the 8th season in a row, he has proven that he is one of the best players to ever put on a Blue Jays uniform. He has 1077 hits, 285 home runs, 753 RBIs in 1192 games played with the Blue Jays. He holds the franchise record with 11 home runs in 11 continuous series and he is second only to Carlos Delgado in consecutive 20+ home run seasons (Bautista has 8, Delgado has 9). He is one of the most consistent players in the league and is the definition of clutch.
Not to mention Bautista’s infamous bat flip, which is the second biggest home run Canada has ever seen.
Jose Bautista is a controversial player, but at the end of the day, he is one of the greatest players to ever wear a Blue Jays uniform and he should be remembered as such.
