The calm before the storm

Today, June 17th at 3 p.m. marks the beginning of the trade freeze and the deadline for submitting the protection lists.

This means that no team is allowed to sign or resign any players until Thursday, June 22. The exception being, the Golden Knights who are allowed to trade and negotiate tomorrow. At 5 p.m., is the deadline for submitting their protection lists.

Then the madness ensues.

June 18: At 10 a.m., every team’s protection list will be made public

June 21: At 10 a.m., the Vegas Golden Knights will submit all their picks to the NHL head office. At 8 p.m., the NHL awards show will begin and they will announce all of Vegas’s picks.

June 22: Trade freeze is over and now teams can start negotiating and trading however they please.

June 23-24: The NHL draft.

This is going to be a hectic month for every NHL team. Luckily for us, we can just sit back and watch all the drama unfold. (Unless your team gets ripped off. Then it’s not fun.)
