The Pittsburgh Penguins are back to back Stanley Cup champions for the first time since the Detroit Red Wings in 1997-98.
People are furious at the referees for their poorly judged calls, and rightly so, but isn’t that the beauty of the NHL playoffs? The best team rarely wins, instead, it’s the team who shows the most resilience during the toughest times and has a bit of luck on their side as well.
Pittsburgh did not exactly have the easiest road to the Cup. They played Columbus (strong forechecking team), Washington (best regular season team), Ottawa (strong and structured), and then Nashville (best defensive corps in the league). All while playing through terrible injuries to Letang, Murray at the beginning, and Patric Hornqvist. Side note: Did you know that Fleury actually played more games than Murray? Fleury played 15 and Murray played 11.

This playoff series really showed everybody how good of a goalie Matt Murray is. In fact, he is probably the best goalie in the world. He had a .937 SV% and shut down the Nashville Predators for 2 straight games. In a way, you could call Murray and Price the goalie version of Mcdavid to Crosby.
Well, whether you liked the outcome or not, that was the last game of the 2016-2017 season. Hopefully, everybody enjoyed it and are ready for the NHL expansion draft!
