All around the world, Toronto is regarded as the center of the hockey universe. But after 50 years of failure, is it still a hockey town?
Before the 2016-2017 Maple Leafs season, I was starting to think that the interest was shifting away from hockey and more to baseball and basketball due to the recent success that the Blue Jays and Raptors have been experiencing. However, during the NHL playoffs, Toronto’s true colours emerged, exposing the city’s soft spot for the Leafs. People were choosing to go to Leafs’ games rather than Raptors’ games and the Blue Jays were an after thought. The entire city was truly buzzing for the first time in four years.
There are plenty of hard core Raptors and Blue Jays fans, but deep down, this entire city wants to see the Leafs’ finally succeed.
