The Blue Jays are last in the AL East with a record of 18-24. A lot of their regulars are injured and they have the oldest team in baseball. It’s time for a retooling.
Right now, they are in a great position to shake up their team. They have young talent to build around (Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna and Travis) and they have ageing veterans who can fetch a high price on the market. (Tulowitzki, Martin, and Bautista) They can easily trade those players before the trade deadline for some younger, more versatile players.
The management for the Blue Jays (Shapiro and Atkins) has a history of building young and fast teams. Just look at how they built Cleveland. They can easily replicate that model onto the current Blue Jays team.
The most important position in baseball is the pitcher. Toronto is loaded with young talent and that will be a great headstart for them. Now, all they need is some more speed and offensive threats. Yes, Tulowitzki and Martin are offensive threats, but they are getting old and they are both injured at the moment. Their injuries can affect them long term and it’s better for them to not be on the team when the aches and cramps hit.
The Blue Jays are not World Series contenders this season, but if they play their cards right, they can definitely get back into the conversation.
