It’s been a little over a week into the playoffs, and half of the weaklings have been weeded from the herd. Eight remain.
Nashville Predators vs. St Louis Blues
WINNER: NASHVILLE IN 6
Both Jake Allen and Pekka Rinne have been nothing short of magical so far, with a .956 and .976 save percentage respectively. In the season series, the Predators have a 3-2 edge with 15 goals scored vs the Blues’ 11. A bonus is that Nashville swept Chicago, which will boost the team’s confidence. It also gives them a lot of extra rest, which is so valuable, especially in the playoffs.
Both teams are dangerous offensively, with players like Vladimir Tarasenko and Filip Forsberg but the way these goaltenders are playing, this will definitely be a tight, low-scoring affair. This will be an interesting series because both teams are built so similarly. They are strong defensively, and don’t have too much star power up front, so if you’re a fan of high-scoring games, don’t watch this series.
Anaheim Ducks vs. Edmonton Oilers
WINNER: EDMONTON IN 6
For my bracket to stay intact, I need the Oilers to win. Anaheim is a big, strong team which could be a slight problem for the young and fast Oilers. But Edmonton isn’t some helpless little lamb. They have big and strong players like Kassian, Lucic, and Maroon. Cam Talbot has been his steady self so far, and they have been getting steady offence from more than just McDavid. Both goalies have been superb for their clubs, with Gibson and his .926 save percentage and Cam Talbot’s .927 save percentage. In the season series, Edmonton won three of five games and scored 14 goals vs Anaheim’s 12. Both teams are really tight, but ultimately, Edmonton’s quick-strike offence will prevail and bring this team back to the long awaited Conference Finals for the first time since 1991.
