You hear about every teams’ “second gear”. Basically, that’s the ability the team has in winning clutch games.
I’ve been wondering for a while if the Leafs have a second gear. That increase in skill and speed. With them getting 3 of a possible 4 points against Chicago and Boston, I think we all know the answer.
That Boston game was the most critical game of the season. It would be the difference between contending for third in the Atlantic vs the Wild Card. And they won. They swept the Boston season series for the first time since Boston became a part of the NHL.
If they lost, that gap would’ve been a five point gap. But instead, they are one point back of Boston with a game in hand.
If the Leafs can get third in the division, that will be a huge relief. Instead of playing Washington or Pittsburg, they can play Ottawa or Montreal.
CAN YOU IMAGINE A PLAYOFF ROUND OF TORONTO VS OTTAWA OR MONTREAL? That would be the most watched playoff series in the last 5 years.
