The line of JVR, Bozak, and Marner were -4 in the game against the Ducks. I have a love-hate relation ship with that line. There are nights when they are our offensive powerhouse and then they have nights against the Ducks. With the Leafs 4 points out of a playoff spot, I think that it’s time for a bit of a change.
Our current lines are:
Zach Hyman, Auston Matthews, William Nylander
JVR, Tyler Bozak, Mitch Marner
Leo Komarov, Nazem Kadri, Connor Brown
Matt Martin, Brian Boyle, Nikita Soshnikov
My problem with the JVR, Bozak, and Marner line is that they have no idea on how to play defense and that is a really big problem right now. The problem is, the other lines are really good and all have a specific role to play.
I am not even going to try and budge Kadri’s line. I love that line and it is perfect the way it is.
What could happen is Hyman and JVR switching lines. JVR is an offensive upgrade from Hyman and Hyman is a defensive upgrade to Bozak’s line.
Another way, though it is highly unlikely, is to switch Marner and Soshnikov around. That way all 4 lines have an offensive threat and Soshnikov can greatly improve the defense of that line.
These are just some suggestions. At this point, any change is a welcome one.
